Welcome to NewsTurfs. I’m using this blog to share ideas about new forms of journalism, and the way journalism and its new forms are being shaped by society, culture, technology, power and merely by the paths they’ve traveled to date. I’ll also be talking about the way journalism can connect with, and serve, community.
A little about me: I’m an associate professor of journalism in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama. My research focuses on the sociology of news, especially as it relates to new forms, practices, technologies and structures of news and news work.
I’m an Atlanta native, a Davidson College grad and a former political cartoonist. I spent a year and a half designing t-shirts on the coast in Charleston, S.C. On frustrating, stressful days, I’m right back there…
I hope to get your comments.
